Have you always wanted to visit Hollywood but never had the chance? Would you like to see John Wayne’s fists? Whoopi Goldberg’s braids? Betty Grable’s million dollar legs? R2D2’s treadmarks? For less than a dollar, 3D Senses Studio’s new app, 3D StarFootprints, will give you an up-close look at the world-famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre forecourt.
Users will be able to browse 242 stars and footprints in three different modes: 3D features, 2D features, and search/browse. With the 3D feature, users will use their left thumb to walk and drag their right thumb across the screen to look around. They will also be able to turn stars’ headshots off and on, and double-tap on footprints to access Stars’ profiles or Info Cards. The 2D feature allows a top-down view of the headshots, which is helpful in identifying different stars and is easier to read. Double-tapping on the footprints will also bring up the Info Cards. With the 2D feature, there is also zoom, drag touch, and pan touch controls. Finally, there is a search/browse feature for users who don’t want to look around and want instant visual satisfaction. This allows users to easily look up stars by their names, jump to their favorite footprint and view it in high-resolution 2D or 3D mode.
StarFootprints offers a user-friendly interface that allows users to easily navigate one of the best digital representation of the stars’ prints available. There is no need to travel all the way to sunny southern California and brave traffic in downtown Los Angeles just to see the star’s stars. If you decide to visit, this little app will come in handy when planning future trips. It will also replace your annoying tour guide if you’re already at the Chinese Theatre. You’ll engage in an interactive experience and access highly detailed prints and signatures of your favorite movie stars and learn fun facts too!
It is a great little app that is chock-full of helpful information. Not only is it handy and easy to use, it’s also aesthetically pleasing (I promise that’s not because I’m getting starry-eyed). The Info cards provide provide basic information like birth name, height, date of birth, place of birth, date of footprint, footprint image, handprint image, signature, awards, and star location. Additional information on the Info card includes the star’s most memorable movies/shows which was a nice touch. Users can also access additional information at http://www.3dsenses.com/starfootprints from the about section of the app.
Future updates could include better zoom and faster loading times. If it’s not too much to ask, improved zoom capability on the star’s face shot would be highly welcomed. This would allow fans the ability to better enjoy the beautiful/handsome star’s faces from their portable devices. A soundtrack that plays while users browse the different profiles would be another great addition. Or there could be a built-in feature that encourages users to pull-up their favorite songs to play while they enjoy a virtual visit to the hand and footprints of the stars. Additional information on the stars would also be a treat for users. And so would pop trivia or quizzes like they have in real movie theatres. It’s understandable if these features aren’t included with future updates. At the very least, the developer should re-check the stars’ names. Whoopi Goldberg was misspelled “Whoopy Goldberg” on the browse/search list. For shame, 3D Senses Studio, for shame. They should also look into getting iTunes to correct the app name from “3,D StarFootprints” to “3D StarFootprints”.
As is, 3D StarFootprints is a great value at $0.99 even if it is a little sloppy. Those not yet ready to commit, should download the FREE lite version that includes 55 (vs. 242 in the full version) stars and footprints so they can clearly see why they should give the full version a shot.
