Fauxto

Not everyone knows Photoshop. Not everyone wants to take a picture on their iPhone, transfer it to their computer, and then finally be able to just add a couple of jokes and decorations. Fauxto presents you several customizable image elements that you can drop onto images of your friends to give them some fun designs and ‘costumes’ in just a few finger slides and pinches. Released by Krate, Fauxto is available on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad for $0.99.

First, take a picture of your friend. Preferably in front view. Open up the app (or you can take one in-app) and use the image. The controls are simple enough: you slide your finger to go through different costume pieces from head decorations, eye props, upper lip décor, or neck/body items. Each item can be scaled, rotated, and moved with your fingers and each item can be sort of forced into place so that no matter what angle your picture has your friend, most props can look good on them.

The decorations and costume parts look good. The images are high resolution, sharp, and in general, they look pretty good. With some time, you can make some actually very unique and fun images.

Controlling the costume parts with your fingers can get touchy however because the only way to move them is to touch your finger directly on them. Glasses, moustaches, and other items are usually hidden under your finger. If you could tap an item then have controllers appear on the sides of the screen, that would really help placement and scaling. The items currently available is still a bit limited, but Fauxto is still in its version 1.0.0 at the time of writing this review so future updates can really expand on the amount of stuff to use.

Fauxto

Fauxto is easy to understand, though a bit difficult to control, especially for those of us with large hands. Otherwise, I recommend trying this out if you are a fan of photo manipulation apps. Combine the finished products of other apps and try adding parrots, black eyes, or grass to them!
