iMessenger

Note: If you are looking for a review of the new iMessages app from Apple read our review of the 9 New iOS 5 Apps from Apple.

iMessenger is an instant-messaging app released by Fortune Apps. There are plenty of chat apps in AppStore, many which do pretty much the same thing so here are a few of the differences that you can expect with iMessenger.

Firstly, iMessenger is its own messenger system, meaning it’s not compatible with other chat clients like AIM or Yahoo! Messenger and you have to sign up to use it and can only communicate with other users who have registered with it. iMessenger is actually marketed as an alternative “free” texting service for those without an unlimited text plan but still love to text. The app is free to download but its pre-basic version is text-only and comes with banner ads. The ads can be removed by buying the basic $0.99 in-app upgrade package and MMS Sending can also be unlocked for another $0.99.

Secondly, iMessenger uses a native User Interface which makes the app very much like the MMS service that came with the iPhone. Its neat and sleek interface is a welcome change from the bulky design of many other apps. Chats can be seen in both portrait and landscape formats although the chat screen is a lot harder to view while in landscape mode with the banner ads and open keyboard in the way.

Lastly, iMessenger has some additional features that turn out to be really nice to have. There is “Rapid Message Status” which is a small icon that indicates if your message was already delivered (D) and/or read (R). The other perk of iMessenger is the ability to log your conversations as well as sending them via email or WiFi.

Overall, iMessenger is a really solid free MMS/IM service, one that is well-worth the two dollars in upgrade fees. All of its good points aren’t worth much though if your circle of friends isn’t on iMessenger, so test it out and if you like what you find, tell your friends.

  2. i’ve downloaded it and paid for the basic package but it wont load, just says at the top ‘connecting’. i leave it for ages and it still doesn’t load, the contacts screen or the requests screen. the wi-fi is on and working so its not that. this is ridiculous seen as i have paid for this app!

  3. I’m having the same problem as jasmin, so I deleted it and re-installed it then tried to register under a different name (to start over from scratch) and it’s still not getting past the “register” screen. This is getting very annoying. Anyone have any solutions?

  4. I’m having the same problem, it doesn’t load, and it just keeps saying ‘connecting’ it’s actually really annoying now, i’ve left it all day and it’s still sayin the same thing.

  5. I’m having the exact same issues as the others, I’ve paid my $2 and it never goes past the ‘connecting’ screen…

  6. im having the same problem just says connecting

  7. Ive having the same problem it’s been saying it for day’s now //

  8. I am having the same problem as everybody above, all it says is connecting and I’ve paid the $2 – I’m getting very frustrated!!! Does anybody know how to make it work?

  9. everyone including me seems to have same connection problem…..IS IT ALL A SCAM? because there’s no one who can answer this or solve the problem!!!!

  10. Any fixes for the “connecting” issue? Is there something that will make this work or is it trash?

  11. I am having the same problem. There’s no way to fix this. It’s a scam!

  12. It’s not a app you buy in the app store you have to go in your settings go to the text message icon then it’s gonna have the options you turn on I messenger. Now the thing is it won’t say I message if the person you texting down have an IPhone or IPod etc. it will appear green and was sent as a regular text. Once a contact has and iOS device it will say u messag. And if you group text a bunch of friend and they all have iPhone etc everyone could chat like a chat room. If some in the group doesn’t have ios they will get singular messages from any one that replays to the group message. Enjoy let me know if I was of any help

  13. Just downloaded this app and purchased the 2 upgrades…… app has been stuck on “connecting” for the last 2 hours… BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….BEWARE….
