Berserker

Berserker is a unique numbers strategy game with an edge by adding an element of barbarianism to the mix. You are a Viking leader who is tasked to lead an elite group of warriors in battle against the oncoming river of enemies.

You have 4 different enemy tribes in every battle (red, yellow, green, blue) and every warrior is represented by a shield with a number. On your side is a banner also with a number. You can only attack warriors whose shield is one number higher or lower than your banner number. It’s sort of like Speed in that respect but instead of getting rid of your cards, you are getting rid of your enemy. You have 3 minutes to clear 10 rounds. If you run out of time or health (the game starts with 20 health points), then the game ends.

During the game, if you are unable to attack any of the warriors, there are several ways to get yourself out of that situation. You can issue a challenge which causes more warriors (shields/numbers) to pop up. However, this causes your combo meter to reset. You also have a warhorn that works like a wild card, allowing you to rush any enemy warrior on the field. Everytime you clear an entire enemy tribe, you gain 1 warhorn. You can stack up to 3 within one round but they don’t carry over to the next round. Your third option is to go berserk which will clear the board of all shields. However, you will get 1 point of damage per shield.

Released by OneSouthDesign, Berserker’s design is well-done, its cartoony graphics are sharp and vibrant as is its music and sound effects.

Berserker is a simple and enjoyable game. With 4 modes of gameplay, personal and global leaderboards and trophies/achievements to unlock for a nice $0.99, Berserker is not only great when you need something to pass the time but is also a choice game to come back to again and again. OneSouthDesign has also released a free Lite version, so try it out and see what you think.
