Penguins Jump review

Have you ever wanted to live vicariously through the aerobic life of a penguin? Or perhaps just wanted to experience the various and sundry joys and responsibilities of caring for a crèche of penguin chicks? Well good news for all you South Pole enthusiasts because Penguin Jump does it all. This is a $0.99 app developed by Cozfunfun, and can be used with iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

In this cute and strangely addictive penguin adventure, you are papa penguin who is tasked with jumping over obstacles, bouncing off of seals, evading vicious polar bears, and gobbling up yummy bubbles of fish, all while making sure the little ones keep up. You score points every time you or one of your offspring successfully clear a jump, hatch an egg or grab a bite to eat. Touch each penguin individually to make it jump keeping in mind that timing is critical. Every time a new chick joins your adventure, you have both the opportunity to score more points and the responsibility of keeping it out of harm’s way. Each icy level increases in speed across slippery terrain and poses new risks demanding that you be quick on your webbed feet in this fast-paced penguin paradise. The stakes are high, given that each failed jump is certain death for one of your babies and also takes a toll on papa’s health. Papa dies once his red life bar at the top of the screen runs out. This life-line is replenished as you score points. If you have what it takes to make it to the end of each level, mama penguin is there, waiting to greet you with open arms and an abundance of kisses.

Initially when I played this game, I was taken by the adorable waddle of the penguins, the Antarctic background and ambiance, and the upbeat rhythms of the soundtrack. The challenge of coordinating all of your penguin’s jumps (this could potentially be several chicks in tow) paired with the incentive to beat your previous score makes this a game that will have you jumping back time and time again for more.
