Mani Golf

What do you get when you put Waluigi in golf clothes, throw him into a ricochet-style mini golf game app, and then submit it to AppSafari? A REVIEW! Hahahaha—sorry. Mani Golf has you hitting a ball into goals through a variety of strange or complex layouts. Since you control a cousin of Dick Dastardly, you can also manipulate your golf ball after you hit it to aid your shot for those ‘miracle’ hole-in-ones. Mani Golf is an iPhone and iPod game from SoGoPlay Games. It comes in $0.99 and Lite flavors and the iPad version is coming soon.

Mani Golf

You play ____Mulligan. In the AppStore, his name is Gordon. They seem to have a random name generator since in mine, I got Gaylord… yeah… Though Mani Golf doesn’t give us a background story for Mr. Focker, I have to assume that he wishes to conquer the mini-golfing industry by milking cats or something… no no, I’m just kidding of course. This is a mini-golf style game where you first hold your finger on the golf ball, drag back, and let go to hit the ball. You get a very useful trajectory prediction line and you have to plan the bounces and try to guide the ball into the goal with as few swings as possible. Theoretically, I believe it is possible to complete each level with only one swing, but on a few of them, I just could NOT get a hole in one. In fact, some almost seem to require 4 or 5 swings just to make it to the goal. That’s just harsh for perfectionists.

The graphics are bright, well designed, and cartoony. It’s fun to look at and the colors and designs work really well together. Some parts really are obvious that they are Photoshop filtered images from some other source since they break the art design. I’m starting to see that quite often in these game apps recently… It’s not a good thing. It’s plagiarism in some cases… just a note I wanted to make.

Mani Golf

The gameplay is nice and smooth. No glitches. This combined with a main character that is weird and quirky, art that is bright and fun, and clever, challenging levels, all make for a really fun experience that will give you hours of entertainment. I can’t find anything to complain about for Mani Golf and that’s something special. I wish for more characters, more stages, and maybe some way to turn off the sometimes annoying voiceovers. Besides that, it has a Lite version. Try it for yourself!
