PottyMouth! review

PottyMouth! is a translating app that can be useful and it can get you into trouble if you are not careful. It was brought to us by Chins Jain and can be used on an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. It costs $0.99 and you must be at least 17 years old to download it.

When communicating (or attempting to communicate) with people who speak a foreign language, frustration almost always abounds. Whether you are in a distant country or speaking to a F.O.B. who is trying his/her best with a half English, hybrid language there are bound to be some obscenities uttered or fists thrown simply because misunderstandings are likely. This app comes in handy at times like these because you can get a clear message across by knowing what to say and how to pronounce it in the person’s native tongue.

The app is set up as a table. On the left side, there are about 70 words and phrases and on the right side are the 8 languages that they provide. You can scroll down for each column to match up the words and phrases to the language of choice. The words and phrases include everything from “disrespectful” (go figure) to “hot in bed” (there is a fine line between having to use one or the other).

The eight language options are English, “Shameless,” Hindi, “Paagal ho kya?” Chinese, “Ji Che!” Russian, “Tarchyok” Italian, “Vai al diavolo,” German, “Scharf im Bett,” French, “Pas de manieres,” and Spanish, “Estoy enojado.” I love that they have “Crazy Girl,” as a choice and not “Crazy Boy.” There are warnings, sexually suggestive words and questions, and aggressive and threatening expletives. You really have it all to choose from and the app includes sound bites with correct pronunciations. What is more, you can unleash the fury on pen pals too by using PottyMouth! to carry the message on through Facebook or email.

This app is so much fun. My boyfriend is German and my best friend is French so for the first hour after downloading PottyMouth! I was on my phone texting them all sorts of threats and indecencies in their mother tongues. My only complaint is that there are not more languages to choose from.
