Save Ned: Movie Trivia review

Save Ned: Movie Trivia is a gaming app that tasks the player with saving Ned by answering movie trivia questions correctly. The game was created by Fusion Bay for an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad and it costs $1.99.

If there is one thing I get unadulterated, consistent enjoyment out of it is answering trivia questions about movies, so I was really excited to try out Save Ned. You get to choose between five levels that are rated easy to difficult. The easiest level has options like, Tom Hanks movies and the hardest asks you questions about Best Supporting Actress Winners.

Save Ned is full of categories. There are directors and actors as category themes and 5 puzzles to solve per category. Ned is stuck in a water tank and with every hint you use, the tank gets fills slowly with water. There are 3 different types of hints Easy, Medium, and Hard, which correspond with how much water goes in the tank. An example of an easy hint is giving away the theme actor’s costar in the movie you are trying to guess. A harder hint would be a catchy quote from the movie’s trailer or something like, “Released in 1995.” Obviously “Released in 1995” and knowing the name of the actor who starred in the movie can possibly be enough information for some, but most will need some background information or the plot summary to guess correctly. If you are ready to solve the puzzle then you hit solve and type the name of the movie into a search list. Even if you only remember bits of the movie title and not the whole, you can still find it in the list, which makes this game a bit simpler.

The premise behind Save Ned is in line with the way I like to spend my free time, so I am perhaps a bit critical of the app. I had a good time playing with it, but the game is definitely limited. It is priced a little higher than the basic app game so I naturally expected more of it.
